This year, Mom won’t be the only person receiving a Mother’s Day card.
Giving birth in the United States is more dangerous than in 49 other countries. In the last 24 hours, around the world, almost 1,000 women have died from complications of pregnancy and childbirth. Maternal health is a human right — and there’s no better time than Mother’s Day to let Congress and other leaders around the world know that you care about the lives of women worldwide.
Join the fight for maternal health by requesting Mother’s Day action cards to send to U.S. and world decision-makers. Let us know how many cards you’d like by registering online (they come in sets of six).
These Mother’s Day cards aren’t destined for the shoebox or the refrigerator. Send them back to us and we’ll take them straight to your Members of Congress, urging them to support the Maternal Health Accountability Act, which would take vital steps to improve maternal health in the U.S. We’ll send other cards to leaders in Peru and Burkina Faso, urging them to improve their countries’ troubling maternal health records.
From now through May 22, please join other Amnesty activists across the country who are mobilizing in support of maternal health. Your cards will form the foundation of a greater lobbying, research and awareness effort to fight unnecessary deaths in pregnancy and childbirth.
Every 90 seconds a woman dies giving birth, and the rate of maternal death in the United States is increasing. Many of these deaths can — must — be prevented.
This Mother’s Day, Amnesty is giving you the tools to do something about it. Five hundred members and groups have already registered to write Mother’s Day action cards, host film screenings, and more in support of the right to maternal health. Are you or your Amnesty group part of this world-wide effort? There’s still time to register to receive our event planning kit, including Mother’s Day action cards, buttons, stickers, and more.
Every year, more than 350,000 women die from pregnancy-related complications. This Mother’s Day, join us in fighting this human rights crisis! Write for mothers worldwide — request your Mother’s Day cards today.
My mother
She is mostly silent
about
what she has or has not,
last time she weeps a little
'cause she wants to be with father
who already passed,
but as well she doesn't want
to miss if even one part of the scene.
I love my mother,
but sometimes that even doesn't seem
to be the fulfillment of her dreams,
she loves all of her childhood,
gave birth to seven, we, children, are with six,
but she might not know
about the varses
in the scriptures.
Sometimes she had some tears about,
but I went though on
with my part of life
she gave,
and it was her, in agreement with father,
to have the choice
for my name,
having got this of her
mother.

I've seen my mom have too go through things and accept things that I don't think I would ever accept in my lifetime. She has her faults and is very clingy too me at times, but I do appreciate her worrying about me, even though at times it gets on my nerves. I have alot of respect for women, especially for women who have children and have too raise them on their own. Alot of women have too work extremely long hours on a job that they don't particularly like, but they do it for their children. They work hard so that their children can have food and the things they need for school, etc. I've seen women most of my life struggle too keep it together under extreme and not so extreme circumstances. It takes great strength too keep yourself together, so you know they have too keep their sanity together for their children. We live in a world that undermines womens' ability at times, but without mothers and women who even raise children who are not their own, where would we be, nowhere actually. Women are a strong vessel in our communities, neighborhoods and world. THANK YOU TOO ALL THE MOTHERS IN THE WORLD, especially the good ones who sacrifice for others.

I would've liked to have ordered a few to do myself, but the language at the link for requesting cards directly implies that it is only for "events", groups of multiple people. There are no events going on near me, however, and I'm not interested in organising one myself – I just want to write out some cards and do what I can to help, myself – I'd have happily written out more than a dozen if I'd have felt that that was an option.

Hi Valerie,
You can most definitely write the cards on your own! Please just send me an email at demanddignity@aiusa.org with your name, postal address, and how many cards you'd like (they come in sets of 6), and I'll get some in the mail to you right away.
