19 Reasons Why Russia Must Speak Out Against Syria Atrocities

syria vigil

A top Russian official made the following statement today:

Russia enjoys good and strong military technical cooperation with Syria, and we see no reason today to reconsider it—Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov

While Russia touts its good and normal relations with the Syrian regime, more evidence has emerged of crimes against humanity committed by the Syrian government under President Bahsar al-Assad. Our new report “I Wanted to Die”: Syria’s Torture Survivors Speak Out exposes the system of torture within Syria, on a scale not seen for decades. It identifies 31 methods of torture.

While I was reading through the new report over the weekend, I remembered my experiences meeting survivors of atrocities several years ago and how hearing their stories made such a lasting impact on me. While absolutely not comparing any situations, I couldn’t help but notice how the personal testimonies from torture survivors in Syria had a very different effect on me than reading about the horrific fatality statists or reviewing satellite images of Homs. Frankly speaking, after a moment of helplessness, I got even angrier; and determined to not rest until Russia, Syria’s closest ally and a key pressure point, drops its shameful silence.

So instead of sharing here with you a summary of our new report—we have a press release for that—I wanted to share the voices of 19 Syrians who were recently tortured and who told us their story. Like other recent testimonies from Syria, we have made them available on our Eyes on Syria map. I encourage you to read their stories, become angry, and act (see below what you can do immediately):

  1. “Karim,” age 18, Der’a
  2. “Adnan,” age 35, Der’a
  3. “Abd al-Baset,” age 41, Der’a
  4. “Ra’ed,” age 27, Der’a
  5. “Musleh,” age 29, Der’a
  6. “Thamer,” age unknown, Damascus
  7. “Abu al-Najem,” age 40, Der’a
  8. “Muhammed,” age 23, Damascus
  9. “Najati,” age 65, Homs
  10. “Al-Shami,” age 40, Damascus
  11. “Tareq,” age 27, Tartus
  12. “Jihad,” age 34, Der’a
  13. “Emad,” age unknown, Damascus
  14. “Mousa,” age 26, Der’a
  15. “Ghazi,” age 22, Damascus

  1. Russia is not fueling violence in Syria. AmnestyUSA.org, please tell the USA and the Brits to stop initiating armed rebellions abroad and to stop arming the opposition. Since when is Amnesty so subservient to a particular country's secret services?

  2. Syria may torture, but so does the US (rendition, black holes,…) and quite a few other states in the West that want to be seen as “civilized”…

I, for one, get equally “angry” about the now 7000 Syrians killed and tens of thousands injured because of an armed uprising provoked, sponsored, and trained in city guerilla warfare by the West. No head of state will accept this. This has everything to do with weakening an ally of Iran, in a run-up to an illegal Israeli “preventive” attack on Iran, which by poor American politics of the last decade has been able to develop into a regional power, not being sensitive to Western bullying. Always thought AI was somewhat more balanced in its campaigns…

  3. I am shocked and dismayed that Amnesty International is pushing this Zionist propaganda line for the imperial invasion and brutal assault of Syria. The Amnesty Board needs an immediate time out to examine its infestation by provocateurs and Zio-agents who serve the NWO. I stopped giving money to this organization last year when it assisted NATO in its OBVIOUSLY STINKING lies about Libya, and now I can say that I will never ever give this organization another cent for its masquerading the true causes of the murders in Syria. SHAME SHAME SHAME ON YOU, ESP. THE ZIOYIDS IN YOUR ORG WHO JUST CANT STOP HUMBUGGING HUMANITY WITH CIA FABRICATED LIES.

  4. I wanted to say "ditto" on all three of the previous writers. I am grateful to the Russians for supporting the Syrian government against the USA, Israel, and the other European nations.

  5. If Syria obtains its 'freedom' what guarantee do we have that they will not start a pogram against the Christian minority, a widespread common practice in the 57 nations of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (oppression). Furthermore, following the example of Arab Springs in Egypt, Libya and Tunisia, what guarantee is there that the ghastly Muslim Brotherhood will not step into the breach. I suspect all these Arab Spings will turn out to be Sharia fueled Winters of discontent.

  6. Russia has consistently pushed for negotiation among all parties in the Syrian civil war. I have read there are French troops there as well as agents from the American and Israeli spy agencies. Al-Qaida is apparently there as well — along with people crossing from Iraq and Lebanon. Even the Turks are in the game now.
You make it sound as though Russia is the culprit. They are the only ones who have been steadfast in asking for negotiations and preventing another Libya. I would appear the "side" the USA is backing is not even in Syria at the moment.
The situation is a mess. All parties should get out of the country and all should force the groups to sit down and negotiate. W.L. Williams

  10. I would defend Russia to the death for the courageous stand they are taking in defense of Syria. Afghanistan, Libya, Iraq, etc. etc. all on the Zionist Corporate elite Imperialist American "HIT LIST>" Syria is next in line on the Elitist's "hit list' of small nations destroyed, enslaved and exploited for their resources.

American/Zionist military domination of the world is destroying us all, one nation at a time.

Amnesty International is exposing its self here fully for the tool of American Imperialism and world domination that it is. I applaud everyone of the above people for being wise to this.

Encouraging American interventionism is the agenda of Amnesty International and it's chrystal clear to anyone with half a brain what the results are. It's time to wake up here.

  11. I agree with all comments above.

Unfortunately the situation into which we are seems to be the result of a design. The plan to turn civil society organisations like Amnesty International into instruments of neo-colonial wars was publicly advocated in an article in "The Guardian" in August 2011:
    http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2011/aug/

In this age when there is such a clear attempt to turn all modern wars into plain terrorism, we have to be even more careful and clear-headed about all our thoughts and all our actions.

It is heartening at least that so many readers have seen through this deadly and ugly game.

  20. Just like the Kony campaign, more blind, uneducated, self-righteous, arrogant American's demanding military intervention in a small powerless nation. As if bringing in the ruthless foreign military machine called NATO does anything but wreak death and destruction upon the innocent. I hang my head in shame as a Canadian for what we've done to Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Libya, Africa and who ever else was done in by these self serving bullies. Zionist America's answer to everything, "bring in the drones". sickening I am so dissappointed by Amnesty International. So many people will be duped into supporting this latest "campaign" by AI.

  22. ^ You can talk how much you want about what power who are in control. But you can never ignore the fact that people are dying. To see you talk is just like watching another episode of what-know of Rome with its citizen chatting about the daily news when the real world is outside.

  23. When people are dying or suffering, the very first thing to do is respect. The second thing is trying to understand. The third is to be honest with regards to one's own position within the power network. Without these conditions any action (or talk) is either childish or harmful or both.

  26. The USA branch of Amnesty International should break its deadly silence and speak out strongly against initiating armed rebellions in foreign countries. The US government has always been, rightly or not, absolutely intransigeant against its own citizen when they used weapons against the State. There is hardly a single case when these people, rightly or wrongly called "terrorists", survived physically, even after surrender. The British and the French governments are hardly different (think of Ireland or of the Ouvea cave massacre by French special forces). It is comparatively commendable that the Syrian government remains open to talks, probably thanks in part to Russia. "Speak out", yes. But please dont add fuel to this ugly mess, especially from your secure comfort. People who don't risk their lives have no right to encourage violence.

  28. These comments above are mostly hate filled deranged paranoid delusional thoughts straight out of crazy town. Mythical Zionist conspiracies to control the world now is it? … OMG. Next you will be imagining there are Zionist conspirators hiding in you kitchen cabinets and crawling up your legs. You are a pack of racist, bigoted loony tunes, the lot of you.

Amnesty attacks Israel all the time and most of Amnesty's criticism is unfair and exaggerated. Just last week Amnesty demanded Israel release from custody the senior leader of Islamic Jihad.

Don't you nut-cases get it yet? Have you not been paying attention to the news this past year? Have you all been living in a cave ? There are 100s of millions of Arabs, most of whom have been living under cruel dictators and tyrants for ever, no freedom of speech, no freedom of thought, no freedom of anything except to shut up and let the dictator and his family and friends become obscenely wealthy by full scale theft and robbery of oil wealth while most of the people live in horrible poverty.

These thieving Arab dictators have used the Palestinian issue for propaganda purposes only. The Palestinian issue which could have been easily solved 50 years ago after making peace, has instead been deliberately extended for all these decades only because it was a useful tool to distract the Arab dictator's slave population's attention. This worked for quite a while but finally at long last the oppressed Arab masses have wised up to being manipulated into accepting living under dictatorship by anti-Israeli propaganda and are not willing to take it anymore.

Only you nutty western losers commenting above still seem believe 100s of millions of Arabs should be happy to live freedomless in poverty under evil criminal mafia fabulously rich dictators so long as these dictators oppose Israel,

And all from the safety of your nice safe homes in democratic USA and Canada. Well, how very kind of you.

Just yesterday emails were hacked out of the Syrian dictator's email. This Assad is such a genius he was using the password “12345”. One of them said :

    Source: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/mar/14/basha

“Since the majority of our people are from the Sunni sect and are also religious, I would suggest that the speech must carry an Islamic identity, since much of the opposition raise the flag of Islam it is therefore necessary for the president to snatch this identity from them, but in his own way, by using verses from the Holy Qur'an in the speech.
Confirming that the Islam of the Syrian people is the true Islam by connecting Islam with Syria's principles,
    1. Resistance
    2. Hostility to Israel, the first enemy of the Muslims,
    3. Protection of Palestinian people's rights (real prayers should be in the direction of Jerusalem)
Maybe here the president can reiterate his stance by condemning forcefully the recent Israeli practices and policies to Judaise Al-Quds (Jerusalem).
The president could also embarrass his opponents who are raising the Islamic flag (what sort of Islam are they referring to while they daily make concessions to the first enemy of Muslims, and turn a blind eye to their practices?)

  31. Judonimh:

I (or for that matter, nobody above, as far as I can see) never suggested Amnesty International should "criticise Israel". One hit on the right, one hit on the left, that could be your worldview, but not mine.

People in Western Asia are falling victims to a vast and deadly social experiment, which roadmap was described in a (bad) book published nearly 20 years ago: "The Clash of Civilizations And The Remaking of World Order".

I encourage you to read the Israeli Press, Al-Jazeera, and other Western Asian media. You will find in it a level of subtlety, of incisiveness, unknown to US or European media. The people who read and write these papers are at the receiving end of the bombings, and they are the only ones capable of making peace, for the sake of their children, if only the Anglo-Americans and their clients could have a little more respect for humanity.

The great philosopher Emmanuel Levinas once refused to comment on Israel, saying that he committed to abstain from any comment as he was not living there, and not sharing the risk of this "difficult and high adventure".

Respect is the begining of understanding, and understanding is the beginning of love.

  32. The Syrian Regime, the father and the son, have murdered hundreds of thousands since taking power decades ago. Gaddafi did the same. The Assad regime is, and the Gaddafi was, miniature versions of Nazi Germany. It actually makes me want to vomit to read comments above defending these serial murderers. In fact one of the only regimes on earth ruled by an even more ruthless baby killer with even more innocent civilian blood on his hands is the psychopathic killer Putin, who exterminated one third of the population of Chechnya a few years back. No wonder he wants Assad, the number one foreign customer of the Russian weapons industry to stay in power.

But no matter. Just to let you know, nothing, nothing, nothing, not all the cargo ships packed full of Russian weapons arriving daily in Syrian ports and not even the imported Iranian Revolutionary Guards and Lebanese Hezbollah snipers who have shot down so many Syrian children in the street, will prevent the Syrian people from disposing of the Assad trash, just as was done to Gaddafi before him.

And I am pretty sure the Syrian people will long remember, as will the rest of the Arab world remember exactly what side Iran, Hezbollah and Russia were on.

  33. Judonimh:

The Bush (the Father and particularly the son) have arguably more blood on their hands than all these people together. Did you try to stop them? (I don't know if you are American, but if it's the case you have more leverage than most people in Western Asia.)

Also, I don't agree with the language you are using, because 1. insults are useless and 2. they generally reveal more about the mindset of those who use them, than about those they are aimed at. (Did you write the word "hate" in one of your previous posts?)

  37. Laurent

I think you have incredible nerve complaining about "My" language. I would call your antics chuztpa but using a Jewish term against a knuckle dragging sloped forehead like yourself seems inappropriate.

Laurent, above you wrote: "I agree with all comments above."

So this means your agreement includes the racist bigoted klu klux klan comments of the thing calling itself Michael Mandeville who's filthy garbage sick post above accuses Amnesty of an "infestation" by "ZIOYIDS"

So you agree with scumbag Mandeville and other's use of the web site owned by Amnesty, a human rights group dedicated to the elimination of human rights abuses, to oppress the human rights of a minority group and attack them using the most fanatical extreme racist terminology directly lifted from the speeches of Adolf Hitler.

And all this on blog topic about the criminal Putin regime's profiting off the blood of innocent Syrian children with it's massive Russian Arms sales to the criminal Assad regime

I thought this site had 'terms of use”. Is there no moderator at all here willing to remove the racist filth posts above ?

  38. Hi Judonimh, congratulation for your "nerve" also, I find your post above a bit rich, and thanks for educating me about this racist term, at least I learned a new word today!

OK, I also don't like the language used by Mandeville. I'm not sure what he means by "Zionists" (I myself am not sure what this means in the mouth of various people) but if he meant to say that this policy originates from Israel he is mistaken. It's rather the opposite, Israel is an instrument in the hands of this policy which is planned in the West. The day will come, maybe has already come, when the people of Israel and Palestine decide to fight their own battles, not their "protector"'s battles, and the same day they will start building peace.

But the issue here is Syria, not Israel.

Could you explain me, how bombing populations and violently replacing one after another each secular regime in West Asia by radical Islamists will improve human rights and the security of Americans? There were many Christians in Irak until Saddam Hussein was killed. Now they are all fleeing for safety. European countries complain that the Syrian Christians are not taking arms against their government. There are still many jews in Iran, including at various levels in the administration. Will a war against Iran improve their security? Is it this pluralistic, religiously tolerant world that the USA branch of Amnesty International wants to suppress? Are these values acceptable only in the US? Or is "the clash of civilizations" the road map the US is trying to force upon the world? What is the role of Amnesty in this deadly plan?

I think you have incredible nerve complaining about “My” language. I would call your antics chuztpa but using a Jewish term against a knuckle dragging sloped forehead like yourself seems inappropriate.

Laurent, above you wrote: “I agree with all comments above.”

So this means your agreement includes the racist bigoted klu klux klan comments of the thing calling itself Michael Mandeville who’s filthy garbage sick post above accuses Amnesty of an “infestation” by “ZIOYIDS”

So you agree with scumbag Mandeville and other’s use of the web site owned by Amnesty, a human rights group dedicated to the elimination of human rights abuses, to oppress the human rights of a minority group and attack them using the most fanatical extreme racist terminology directly lifted from the speeches of Adolf Hitler.

And all this on blog topic about the criminal Putin regime’s profiting off the blood of innocent Syrian children with it’s massive Russian Arms sales to the criminal Assad regime

I thought this site had ‘terms of use”. Is there no moderator at all here willing to remove the racist filth posts above ?

  40. Hi Judonimh, congratulation for your “nerve” also, I find your post above a bit rich, and thanks for educating me about this racist term, at least I learned a new word today!

  41. If amnesty has One Real Drop of Human Rights ,What would really do Is ask the USA ,The european to stop the Colonilization of 200years of the Middle east placing their puppets rules who work for their agenda and the Zionist

Russian not only protects its client in the UN with veto after veto.

Russia also has over the years supplied Syria with many 10s of billions of weapons. In 2006 Russia forgave Syria of three quarters, or $9.6 billion, of its $13.4 billion Soviet-era debt Syria owed Russia for weapons purchases. Russia also maintains a large Naval Base in the Syrian port of Tartus, the only Russian Navy base on earth not on Russian soil.

  43. Judonimh, we all know Russia has only a small portion of the weapons the US has, and nobody is afraid Russia starts a war because everyone is afraid the US does that as the US has proved unable to abstain from war for every single year in the last 60 years.

I can't find reasons to blame Syrian citizens who protect their country against foreign invasion the best they can, even when they don't like the government. Democracy is not built on war. In South Africa and Myanmar, democracy is gaining strength after years of non-violent struggle and civil society built-up. War or foreign invasions would not have made these evolutions faster, it would have prevented them from happening. South Africa is also one of the very few countries, with Brazil and Iran, which have voluntarily and unilateraly stopped their nuclear weapons programme, in the absence of external pressure or sanctions. This is the kind of decision that others should emulate and that points to a mature and responsible society.

  44. Thank you Laurent for your voice of reason here. I am learning a lot from
you. I especially resonated with your words "People who don't risk their lives have no right to encourage violence." There is a plan which has been set in motion and those caught in the crossfire as well as those who are sent to foreign lands to die do not have a voice. If they do, no one seems to be listening.

  45. Oh and has anyone noticed how the world has become much more violent since America became the only super power? Since America began "policing" the world?

  47. Oh and has anyone noticed how the world has become a much more violent place since the false, ridiculous and violent Islam became rich with its petrodollars. Methinks it could be six of one and a half a dozen of the other.

Can anyone name one single country of the 57 nations which make up the organisation of Islamic Cooperation which does not discriminate against or persecute its non-Muslim citizens.

And can onyone provide VERIFIABLE evidence for the actual existence of their God ????

  51. You have a point, Stuart, and that's the reason why America needs to stop sending in the CIA and the drones to take out the secular governments (when they piss them off) & installing, the Taliban, Al Quaida and the Muslim Brotherhood to rule those Muslim countries. The rebels are all extremists & the US is aiding and abetting their victorious takeover of the Muslim world.

  52. Sorry Liz. I have lost you. Who are the SECULAR governments the U.S, overthrows and attacks with drones. Which previously secular governments have been taken over by Al-Qaeda, the Taliban and the dear old ever peace loving Muslim Brotherhood ?

While I might not be entirely pro-American, I would certainly prefer to live in Washington, New York or San Francisco. I would be free to express my views there, which is more than can be said for any of the 57 nations of the evil Organisation of Islamic Coopertation.

Furthermore, if the evil Assad is overthrown, we can almost guarantee the Syrian Chistians will become the next victims of Islam. Does not the marvelous book revealed unto the psychopathic and narcissistic 'Prophet' tell Muslims to be hard against the infidels and compassionate to each other.

  56. Stuart: Please get an internet connection and use a search engine. Do you live in a country without internet connection? Don't you have access to newspapers?

All the countries of the OIC have multi-cultural societies. There is no space here to enumerate all the ministers, members of parliament, journalists, lawyers, business people belonging to non-Muslim communities in Muslim countries.

But here are a few essential facts about the US wars on secular regimes in Western Asian countries:

The former prime minister of Irak from 1979 to 2003, Tarik Aziz, is a Christian. He is now facing a death sentence for no clear charges. There was 1.5 million Christians in Irak. But, "After the 2003 invasion of Iraq, violence against Christians rose, with reports of abduction, torture, bombings, and killings.[5] Some Christians were pressured to convert to Islam under threat of death or expulsion, and women were ordered to wear Islamic dress.[5]" (wikipedia) A New York Times article recently reported most Christians have fled Irak. The feelings of gratitude the Christians have towards the US "New World Order" is anybody's guess.

"Under the Gaddafi regime, the Catholic Church functioned more or less freely without much government interference. During that time, there had been relatively good relations between Christians and Muslims. Past signs of peaceful co-existence are indicated by the number of successful interfaith dialogue meetings mentioned on the official Libyan Roman Catholic website catholicinlibya.com."

  61. It would take far too much time to educate some one like you Stuart. But I will answer your question and perhaps you can do a bit of research into current events. Google: Libya & Eygpt, if you would like more info re: the most recent nations where secular governments have been toppled & replaced by Muslim extremists.

  62. Why, night after night, when I connect to the internet do I read of,and view photographs and videos of non-Muslims who unfortunately have to exist in Muslim governed lands being persecutes for blasphemy , desecrating he Quran, being assaulted, killed, raped etc in the OIC nations.

Please name one OIC nation which does not in some way at least discriminate against non-Muslim citizens. The Muslim holy scripture calls for the death, conversion to Islam or subjugation of all non-Muslims and did not Muhammad, the 'insan al-Kamil' and 'uswa hasana', say," I have been ordered to fight all non-Muslims until they convert to Islam and testify their is no god but Allah."

The dhimmitudes my no longer pay the jizya, but they are looked down upon, despised, discriminated against and persecuted, often unto rapped and death.

  65. Stuart, if you "prefer to live in the US", I hope for you that you are indeed living in the US, and let others live in peace. You see, there were 1.5 million Christians who preferred to live in Irak. At least before the US invasion. The prime minister of Irak for 24 years was a Christian. He surrendered to the US forces after negociating the safety of his family, but the US forces ensured he was sentenced to death before they quit, and that the execution would happen only after they quit.

I don't know when a Muslim will be prime minister or in such a position in the US, the UK or France.

Prime Minister Tarek Aziz, "The fiercely patriotic, nationalistic reminder of an illegally overthrown government, which, whatever else, had put Iraq first and poured the country’s oil revenues in to health- care, education, clean water, modern infrastructure, turning a beautiful, but run down “third world” country in to a “near first world” one, to use the West’s patronizing patois.

Last year, Tariq Aziz gave his first interview in his then, over seven years incarceration by the Americans. His insight was as astute as ever, as was his love, and despair, for his country.

"There is nothing here any more. Nothing. For thirty years Saddam built Iraq, and now it is destroyed. There are more sick than before, more hungry. The people don't have services. People are being killed every day in the tens, if not hundreds. We are all victims of America and Britain. They killed our country."

  67. Laurent,
you need to write more of this. you need to share this information, everyone
needs to read your words. It's a shame if we few only see them here. Do you have a blog, or a website of your own? I hope so. I hope you share your thoughts and knowledge to a wider audience. The world needs your words, your wisdom, your calm, reasonable discourse & compassionate, patient arguments for truth about these tragic events which are unfolding. I checked your links and am very thankful to have met you here and found these useful sources of information. Bless you.

  68. Dear Elizabeth, thanks for your kind words. The information is not mine, I just read the papers. There are many, many blogs, some of them written by experts who spend years, even their life, studying what they write about. It's for each one of us to actually read and think, never accepting an opinion, whoever it comes from, but to make, each one of us, one's own opinion. It's healthier to do mistakes on your own initiative, than to acquiesce doing things others want you to do without knowing why. Because at least you can own and repair the mistakes you have done on your own initiative, but generally not those done without knowing why.

I find the testimony of the former Prime Minister of Irak tragic. He is not demanding anything for himself, he is demanding that the USA accept their responsibility and does not abandon his country "to the wolves". And the USA finds itself unable to do that. What were the US citizen doing all these years? Why don't they awake to what they are doing?

The information is there for all to see. Secrets, if there are any, are no more held in hidden facts. It has become so easy to find facts. But you can't see any "fact" if you don't know first who you are. This, we all have to learn urgently.

    God Bless!

  69. Thanks Laurent,

I know the information is available and the facts are all gleaned from your
research. I have learned a few things I didn't know from you. Valuable info. I did not know that the former Prime Minister of Iraq is Christian. I had no idea. His story struck me deeply and his words and story will reach more people through me.
As Catholic I am ashamed that the Vatican doesn't speak up more against
the unjust American Wars and Crimes against humanity.
Diplomacy is one thing, but now i am deeply concerned about that aspect.
We are all constantly bombarded with slick, clever propaganda and a huge pack of lies. No one seems to care or to realize what's actually happening to the world and the upcoming Globalization scheme & how this will impact us. I fear for my children & grandchildren, for their future.
I have subscribed to global research now and plan to just keep
searching for the truth, sharing it with my own circle of friends and family
teaching my children to stay awake and question everything. I just want
you to know that your doing the research for me here has been helpful and
eye-opening. I also want you to understand that the way you communicate
is very important, authentic and powerful, so I hope you share it with a wider

  77. It is assumed I am pro the U.S and supported the invasion of Iraq. I am not and I did not. But I am anti Islam and if I had to make the choice between living in the U.S and one of the 57 OIC nations….. well the U.S would win hands down.

The 1.5 million Christians who lived in Iraq were born there. Given the choice I suspect they would have opted for more friendly neighbours, perhaps the Coptic Christians who of course for 1400 years have lived in the greatest peace and harmony with the Egyptian followers of the self-proclaimed 'Prophet and Messenger'.

I see Muhammad's friends, in response to Allah's exhortations in the Quran, have started on the poor Syrian Christians.

Still no sign of anyone naming one of the 57 where discrimination and persecution do not take place.

  78. Thanks Laurent, I look forward to following your friend’s blog. God Bless you

I see Muhammad’s friends, in response to Allah’s exhortations in the Quran, have started on the poor Syrian Christians.

Still no sign of anyone naming one of the 57 where discrimination and persecution do not take place.

  80. Well Stuart if you "suspect" let me also "suspect"!

Therefore I "suspect" you live in the USA and you were born there. Since you profess such a hate towards Islam, I "suspect" that you never lived in a Muslim country and that you feel a need to harbor such a hatred for convincing yourself how nice the place you live in is, and I "suspect" that if this place, and your neighbours, were really so nice to you you wouldn't feel any need to insult others…

But that's only my suspicion. It's for you to decide what is the cause of your hatred.

Now I volunteer for your question.

There is no country in this world, as far as I know, where "discrimination and persecution" does not take place. In none of the countries where I lived, and as far as I can read in the papers, in none of the other countries.

Now if you want to narrow your question on the issue of religious minorities, I can say that Lebanon, Syria and Irak under Saddam Hussein's rule do not (did not in the case of Irak) persecute non-Muslims more than Muslims. These are very well-known countries, but I am sure that with a little bit of research you can
    find other countries as well.

The Iraki Christians are not fleeing because they are given a choice denied earlier. They are not being offered air tickets, visas or places to stay by anyone, least of all by Western countries who have turned Irak into a hell. The Iraki Christians simply can't live in Irak anymore now that the religiously tolerant regime of Saddam Hussein has been ended in a massive and continuing bloodshed perpetrated by the Anglo-American and their clients.

By "Anglo-American and their clients" I don't mean the ordinary people living in these countries, who often have no idea what Irak is, and sometimes can hardly locate it on a map. I don't even mean the official political leadership of these countries, which is varied. I also don't mean the so-called "Zionist" agenda, because the immense majority of people in Israel are also "ordinary people" who just want peace and are capable of doing it if only given some respect.

By "Anglo-American and their clients" I mean small fraternities, a school of thought, for which a state of permanent war is a way of life. The more visible faces of this fraternity (Georges Bush Jr. for example) are generally not the most influential. You can be a researcher with several Ph.D, even occasionaly a university Professor, and yet participate actively in engineering wars and planning mass destruction at thousands of km from your office, your books, your computer and your familiar, even picturesque neighbourhood.

  82. Wrong again Laurent. I was born in and am a citizen of the United Kingdom.

My strong aversion to Islam comes from having read the Quran, studied the Sunnah and read the Sirah of Ishaq, Tabari and Kathir. These Islamic sources tell me that the insan al-kamil and uswa hasana Muhammad murdered all who spoke out against him and with the support of his deluded followers, to whom he promised booty and captive women and girls to rape, he lied, plotted, tortured, killed, robbed, ransomed and raped his way to power.

The Quran was clearly NOT authored by an omniscient deity. Indeed if such an entity as an omniscient deity were to exist, it would be the grossest of insults to credit him, her or it with the authorship of this pathetic hate filled book.

I am anti-Islam not ant-Muslim. I consider Muslims, even those like the Taliban, Al-Qaeda, Hamas and Hezbollah, to be the indoctrinated victims of the false teachings of Islam. They are suffering from an inculcated sickness for which the only cure is the truth

The numerous testimonials of apostates of Islam confirm my belief that it is evil religion, and Muslims are its victims. As Bertrand Russell said, "More than one billion people believe in Allah without knowing what he supposedly stands for or what he really demands. The minority that do understand have redefined their morality and ethics to fit in with the teaching of Islam, which is floridly lacking in morality….. It is backward thinking imposed by a backward religion."

  84. Stuart, I'm not interested in discussing Islam. That's taking us too far from the subject of this blog. I never took time to study Islam seriously, and my Muslim friends and acquaintances do not give me any sort of feeling that I should worry about the content of their faith and culture. If you want to embark on a missionary's journey your starting point is not a good one, I would recommend that you focuss on creating bonds of friendship with Muslims and understand what they do and say, because that will throw light on their books, (which by the way are not considered as translatable so you will have to learn the language also) and not the other way round, read english translations of sacred books and trying to interpret them. There are so many stupid interpretations of the Bible by Christians themselves, the number of stupid interpretations of the Quran by non-Muslims is certainly even greater.

Bertrand Russel is also not the most rational or objective thinker I know. Alfred North Whitehead has a much clear-headed thinking.

  86. O.K Laurent end of Story. I would just in conclusion say, the Quran is completely translatable and it has quite porperly been done by both Muslims and non-Muslims.

  88. Now, after 3-1/2 years, it seems we are really coming closer to the end of the tragedy.

The extremely polite Russian patience has been overstretched, and seeing the terrible devastation, they have finally decided to stop the western-sponsored genocide of Syrian and Iraqi people. And for good measure, the Chinese are also lending a hand. With the massive influx of modern weaponry suddenly brought by the Russian and Chinese during the last two weeks, all supplies and intelligence to the armed groups will be dried up, and they will have no other choice than to surrender.

The end of the story will not happen as planned. There will be no final massacre. The Russian and Chinese will not eliminate physically the leaders and troops of the armed groups. Instead, the Russian and the Chinese will prevent the Western Powers from doing that.

Cut-off from their intelligence and supplies, the armed groups will surrender to the ground forces of the Syrian army, as they have already started to do, and their leaders will be interrogated and sentenced as per the law and constitution of Syria.

The deadly Western experiment will cease and the Syrian people will at last be allowed to rebuild their country.
