By Dana Watters, Amnesty Get On The Bus Volunteer
Even at nine in the morning on a Friday, when most of us would normally be counting down to the weekend, the energy in the Foundry in Washington, DC is phenomenal. In the sunshine outside, groups color flags in support of Filep Karma, while inside roses and key actions are passed around for signatures. Larry Cox hasn’t even arrived yet, and everyone is already buzzing with excitement.
By the time everyone has settled inside for the opening speeches, the count is well over one hundred Amnesty International activists. The various speakers infect the crowd with even more passion and anticipation, reaching a pinnacle when Larry announces that he has decided that joining us for Get on the Bus is more important than going home to meet with the IRS.
The group splits, half heading to demonstrate for the Women of Zimbabwe (WoZA) at the Zimbabwe Embassy and half for Walid Yunis Ahmad at the Iraqi Consulate. We march in long ovals, chanting and holding our signs, the very picture of peaceful protest. At the Iraqi Consulate, faces peer out from the windows and passers by stop to watch.
Indonesia is after lunch, to call for the release of Filep Karma, and embassy staff returning from lunch walk by with varying degrees of interest and annoyance. A few black SUVs roll through the gates, and we wave our signs bearing pictures of Filep and shout that “waving a flag isn’t a crime.” Our elliptical march ends in a group photo with our banner, and a final, ear-splitting chant of “Free Filep.” We remind them we’ll be back – they probably know, by now. Amnesty USA’s Mid-Atlantic Regional Office organizes a monthly demonstration on Filep Karma’s behalf.
At Chad, there is good news – an embassy official meets with Becky Farrar and expresses both interest in meeting with an Amnesty representative and support for our cause, protection of displaced persons. Outside in the hot sun, we call for an end to violence in Darfur and in Chad, and protection of refugees and IDPs. Many of us, caught up in the greater cause, forget to apply sunscreen. Our sunburns will be our battle scars.
We split again, this time half heading to the Myanmar Embassy to call for the release of Burmese political prisoners and half to the Sri Lankan one to call for an international war crimes investigation and protection of journalists. A sign on the door of Myanmar puts a momentary damper on our collective spirit – they’re closed. But we’re reminded that if we don’t stay and send our message, next year they might follow suit. We stay, and rally anyway, spilling our thousands of signed keys down the steps. We make sure to pick them up before we leave.
At long last, we reach the Chinese Consulate, and begin to circle the small park across from the building, holding our signs with pictures of filmmaker Dhondup Wangchen and chanting. “What do we want?” is the familiar rally cry of the day, answered with a resounding cry of “human rights!” Again, we draw curiosity from within, and support from passing cars. The day has been long – all of us have been either traveling, volunteering, or organizing since before dawn – but the volume and intensity of the group doesn’t reflect it. For many people, the final action seems to renew their spirits. They throw everything they have into this last one, and it shows, when it takes three calls to wind down the chanting. No one is eager for it to end, because Get on the Bus Day, for first-timers and veterans of Get on the Bus New York alike, is exhilarating.
By any conceivable standard, Friday is an overwhelming success. The turnout, while a mere fraction of New York’s numbers, is impressive for the first year, and certainly exceeds the final few weeks’ dire registration count that had many behind the scenes worried. At least a third – probably closer to half – of the participants sport bright turquoise bandanas, signifying volunteer status, but that’s certainly nothing to be disappointed about. The support and enthusiasm of local Amnesty group leaders, Mid-Atlantic Amnesty staff and interns, and Get on the Bus volunteers is, and has been, remarkable, and without question helped the event to exceed expectations.
The recurring rally cry at the end of each action transcends a mere warning – that “we will be back.” It is a promise to those who came, those who couldn’t, and those who didn’t even know about Get on the Bus Day that next year’s event will be even bigger, even better, and even more amazing. In the meantime, however, we have made our mark. Get on the Bus is no longer just New York – it is Washington, and it is going to be the stuff of legend.

"credible allegations" of war crimes represent Sri Lanka's "Srebrenica moment".
Even though the full report has not been released, there is enough evidents avaliable the to the public to prove that sri lanka commited war crime/crime against Humanity by killing over 50,000 Tamils in 2009.
What Is The Difference Between Libyan Civilians And Tamil Civilians?
or any other countries civilians?
Thousands of digital pictures and video clips, many satellite images and other concrete evidences are available to prove without a shadow of doubt that Sri Lankan regime is still committing countless crimes against the Tamil community in Sri Lanka with the excuse of fighting terror.

Congrats!! Not only did you raise your voice but you've shown a younger generation the importance of doing so. It will inspire them forever.

I was worried that all innocent Tamil victims will be forgotten
I’m very grateful to the AI, UN for trying to bring justice to 40 000 + killed Tamils
The recent UN report is the best New Year gift to all victims whose beloved ones were killed in the Sri Lanka war
It is time to bring justice for those innocent Tamil people; most of them were innocent –just kids, mothers, old women, men. I hope that UN releases the report without further delays.
What the UN report shows is that Mahinda Rajapakse is a war criminal. Gothabaya Rajapakse is also a war criminal. What the report does not state, but has been extensively documented elsewhere, is the diplomatic cover provided by India for S. Lanka to carry out its massive genocide of tens of thousands of Tamils. At the end of the day, the Sri Lankan Government/State is a sorry excuse for humanity.
UN report said that Rajapaksa regime deliberately shelling civilians, hospitals and UN aid agency offices.
The UN had initially said at least 7,000 civilians were killed during the last stages of the war. But with the new report talking about “tens of thousands” of civilian deaths, the figure of how many actually died in the final days would now have to be calculated again.
The report dismissed the government’s claim of conducting a humanitarian rescue mission of displaced Tamils held hostage by the retreating LTTE.
“The Government shelled on a large scale in three consecutive No Fire Zones, where it had encouraged the civilian population to concentrate, even after indicating that it would cease the use of heavy weapons. It shelled the United Nations hub, food distribution lines and near the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) ships that were coming to pick up the wounded and their relatives from the beaches.”
“It shelled in spite of its knowledge of the impact, provided by its own intelligence systems and through notification by the United Nations, the ICRC and others. Most civilian casualties in the final phases of the war were caused by Sri Lanka Government shelling,” the report said.
Over 100,000 civilians killed in Sri Lanka war
Over 100,000 Tamil civilians remain unaccounted for after Sri Lanka’s onslaught in 2009 into the northern Vanni region, Channel 4 reported Saturday. Government census forms obtained by Channel 4 show 430,000 residents in Vanni in mid 2008. However internal UN documents also obtained by Channel 4 show only 290,000 people coming out of the final enclave overrun by the government’s troops and being put into its militarized internment camps.
Only 60% of the original residents have returned, a Channel 4 source who recently visited Vanni also said.
The UN spokesperson in Sri Lanka at the time of the government’s final onslaught, Australian man, Gorden Weiss, says the death toll could be “shockingly high.”
Thank you Amnesty International for your tireless effort !! 🙂

Deception, foolishness, ignorance, arrogance, hatred, pride and greed. All of these evils come together and make people to commit crimes against humanity. Sinhala Buddhist extremists want to wipe out Tamils from this tiny island and they have so far been successful in killing many thousands of them.
Sri Lankan governments that are backed by the Sinhala Buddhist extremists have been persecuting the Tamils in Sri Lanka for more than 65 years.
In the fifties, sixties and seventies, the Sinhala extremists slaughtered thousands of Tamils with knives and swords. They burned them alive and destroyed their homes. Hundreds of thousands were made homeless and sent to the North of the country in ships.
Story of Sri Lanka in the last sixty five years is simply the repetitions of hundreds and thousands of similar horrific events at different scales. 99% of the perpetrators were either Sri Lankan military or extremist Sinhala mobs and 99% of the victims were innocent Tamils.
Dublin war-crimes tribunal, conducted by Permanent Peoples’ Tribunal (PPT) based in Milan, which held hearings on 14th and 15th of January 2010 has found that Sri Lanka Government is "guilty of War-Crimes" and "guilty of Crimes Against Humanity." Eye witnesses included several escapees from the final week of Sri Lanka offensive in the Mullaitivu "No Fire Zone" where more than thousands of innocent Tamil civilians were allegedly slaughtered by Sri Lanka Army with heavy weapons.
Successive Sinhala Sri-Lanka governments had been ethnic cleansing the Tamils for the last 63 years and therefore they cannot be entrusted with the safety and security of the Tamil minority. Those leaders were so communal minded that they tend to be as stubborn as a mule. The first prime minister D S Senanayake to the present Mahinda Rajapakse never saw the need to give the Tamils their basic political rights of self determination even after several agreements after talks. http://www.tamilcanadian.com/article/6081

Rajapaksa Regime said that any price can be paid for victory !!
Only a FOOL will believe that violence is the only answer and that no other TRUE options were available.
I can understand a smaller guy picking up violence to protect himself BUT never the GOVERNMENT.
Thats the biggest betrayal of trust – hardly a show of heroism.
True peace can never be achieved unless a mediator helps to draw on the real issues and establishes a framework to address these root cause.
I think whats happening in Sri Lanka war is disgraceful.
The people of Lanka need to be smarter than this…
1. Bring all those responsible for any killing to trial
2. Fix the governance structure to ensure minorities are not being opressed – equal rights on merrit
3. DONT celebrate as a victory – there were 40,000 people killed in a space of 2 weeks
UN report said that the mass scale human rights violations happend in srilanka
It is also true that srilankan government cannot escape from international justice by hook or crook. 🙂

Trauma caused by Rajapaksa to Tamils can never be healed.
Two years after the end of war there is no concrete step taken to solve the problem faced by ethnic tamils expect giving interviews and flawed talk ‘going beyond 13th amendment’.
Amnesty International, Permanent People’s Tribunal, International Crisis Group, UN Human Rights Watch have repeatedly called for an independent enquiry into war crimes committed by Sri lanka.
Today UN experts panel advicing UNSG Ban Ki Moon on Sri Lanka, have called for International Independent Enquiry.

Dear Editors,
I hope your wonderful activists went to the Sri Lankan embassy to congratulate Sri Lanka and its armed forces for having made possible the most significant advancement in human rights in Sri Lanka in the last 30 years. Namely, the total destruction of the terrorist group, the LTTE.
If not for this incredible achievement, Sri Lanka's citizens would continue to endure the nightmare of torture, abduction, assassination, disappearances, suicide bombings and death and injuries due to combat cross fire.
The Sri Lankan Armed even fought in an 'environmentally sustainable' manner, [they even re-cycled the LTTE leadership by spreading their ashes in the seas] without using DU (Depleted Uranium) ammunition, unlike the human-rights loving West, whose massive use of DU in Fallujah has resulted in 'two-headed' Iraqi babies.
"According to studies and eyewitness accounts over the last few years, Fallujah, an Iraqi city that was practically obliterated by U.S. heavy artillery in two major offensives in 2004, is experiencing a staggering rate of birth defects among its local population. The situation echoes similar reports from Basra [where UK forces were stationed] that began to circulate after the first Gulf War in 1991."
The litany of horrors is gut-wrenching: babies born with two heads, one eye in the middle of the face, missing limbs, too many limbs, brain damage, cardiac defects, abnormally large heads, eyeless, missing genitalia, riddled with tumors. Upon touring a clinic in Fallujah in March of last year, the BBC’s John Simpson reported, “we were given details of dozens upon dozens of cases of children with serious birth defects … one photograph I saw showed a newborn baby with three heads.” Later, at the main U.S.-funded hospital in the city, “a stream of parents arrived” with children who had limb defects, spinal conditions, and “other problems.” Authorities in Fallujah reportedly warned women to hold off on having babies at all."

I guess the AI Human Rights SatNav GPS must be faulty, because your activists were unable to find the Pentagon.
By any objective measurement, the human rights situation in SL has only improved without the malign presence of the LTTE. I was expecting at least a 'thank you' from your activists.

Mass murderers are defined by fields of white bones.
Guards by the prisoners they endlessly circle.
So is the nationstate inescapably defined by the stateless nations it swallows.
Zionists point fingers at Arab "tyrants".
Sinhalese supremacists at Fallujah.
Both remind me of japanese fascists.
Pointing at the West for its crimes.
Only in order to use the record of others to hide their own.

In the name of Human Rights and all that you hold dear, please, please please, no more execrable poetry.
As a fully confirmed Fluffer for Eelam, weren't you supposed to go whale-watching off Eastern Sri Lanka with your boyfriend, LTTE Gunalan, to listen to the terrorists' laments 🙂
Oh, any proof of my supposed 'Sinhala Supremacist' statements or ideology?
You're a well-proven, full-time supporter of a racist terrorist organisation, the LTTE, so you should logically also support zionism. Why be shy?
I have noted numerous times in AI"s forum responding to some hard core Mahinda supporters , the likes of Mangos, Repo men, that sooner or later, Mahinda and his war criminal group will become a huge ‘liability’ to all the Sri Lankans.
The southern population should have realized early, that UN and most worldwide countries will not allow a despotic regime like Rajapakse’s to carpet bomb civilians in Wanni .
The sinhala nationalists should know now, that it would have been much better to come to a compromise with SJV Chelvanayakam 40 years ago and we all could have built a Sri Lanka with equality and justice.
Instead of that, the majority southerners decided to support a bloodthirsty Sri Lanka president Rajapaksa in his carpet bombing.
Now the western countries will not forget this and Sri Lanka forever will be stained by these human rights violations
In my opinion, Mahinda and others who were gleefully executing the tamil massacre should be punished and an example should be set for similar blood thirsty regimes around the world.
That should serve as a warning !!!!

Sri Lanka: War Crimes http://english.aljazeera.net/programmes/peopleand…
Sri Lanka asked the U.N. on Thursday not to publish a forthcoming report on alleged war crimes during the island's ethnic, Why, State terrorism will be exposed??
@Meikandan:
Unlike pro-LTTE groupies like you, we aren't slavish supporters of the SL govt and have strongly criticised their idiotic policies and actions. What you still fail to realise is that there will not be an Eelam in this world – perhaps in a parallel universe.
If you were so concerned about the deaths of Tamil civilians, why didn't to pressurise your now thankfully dead leader to let them go, instead of using them as human shields against the SLA offensive? The answer's obvious. You wanted the deaths of thousands of Tamil civilians to happen, hoping that it would stop the offensive.
Further, none of you pro-LTTE groupies actually came to fight when Fatty Prabha really, really wanted extra troops. Instead, you demonstrated & defecated in the West. I suppose you were too busy washing your hair and choosing nice clothes to er… actually risk your lives and limbs.
Sri Lanka will be forever stained by three different rebellions from the 1970s to 2009. If you supported the LTTE, you also have the blood of innocents on your hands. So, don't come whining after you lost the war, you so fervently supported and promoted in 2006.
Now, repeat after me: "When you lose a war, you don’t get what you were fighting for under the table. If you could have, you needn’t go to war."
The UNSG report is all part of the geo-political game. Nothing more.
Dear Editors,
On your next bus trip Washington, I hope you program the AI Moral SatNav GPS to go to the Israeli Embassy and then to the US Senate.
Guess why?
The US demands UN rescind Goldstone Report!
"The US Senate on Tuesday formally and unanimously passed a resolution demanding that the UN Human Rights Council rescind the Goldstone Report, which falsely accused Israel of committing war crimes in its 2009 invasion of the Gaza Strip." http://www.israeltoday.co.il/NewsItem/tabid/178/n…
Is this the same US Senate that demanded Sri Lanka be held to account for 'war crimes'? Or is it a different US Senate? http://www.tamilguardian.com/article.asp?articlei…
It must be tough being a HR worker.

As a fully confirmed Fluffer for Eelam, weren’t you supposed to go whale-watching off Eastern Sri Lanka with your boyfriend, LTTE Gunalan, to listen to the terrorists’ laments 🙂
Oh, any proof of my supposed ‘Sinhala Supremacist’ statements or ideology?
You’re a well-proven, full-time supporter of a racist terrorist organisation, the LTTE, so you should logically also support zionism. Why be shy?

UN Panel Report should not be made public: Stresses the SL Government
The Government of Sri Lanka thoroughly objects to the publication and acting on the recommendations of the report that has been produced by the Expert Panel appointed by the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon, the Minister of External Affairs of Sri Lanka, Mr. G.L. Peris informed at a press briefing at the Ministry OF External Affairs.
The Sri Lankan Mission in New York has conveyed to UN that publishing of this report and implementing its recommendations will cause an irreparable damage to the sovereignty of Sri Lanka.

I have noted numerous times in AI”s forum responding to some hard core Mahinda supporters , the likes of Mangos, Repo men, that sooner or later, Mahinda and his war criminal group will become a huge ‘liability’ to all the Sri Lankans.

Are the unarmed wounded civilians waiting for a Red Cross boats on the beach for evacuation were “unavoidable collateral damage” ?
The learned Mango is misleading the masses of this forum through his flimsy theories which many would not agree with. One such person I met the other day on the full moon day of April was a Tamil not from South Asia but from South East Asia. I affectionately call him Raja.
Mango often in his posts conveniently leave out simple historical facts like since 1948 both major Sinhalese parties are either together or took turns to marginalise the Tamils in SL. Sadly the Tamils did not have worldly wise leaders to lead them and all their leaders looked up only to India by underestimating the Sinhala Style democratic leaders of SL who are master disguisers or leaders without backbones.
International Justice System established after World War 2 is not allowing the atrocities Sri Lanka Army committed against unarmed Tamil Civilians . The UN and the whole world is moving towards accountability, transparency and proper justice. Your legal fabrications are not true. I will be anxiously watching SL from on the 1 st of May whether the Mango and other Propagandists there are prepared to send to gallows those who repeat Cyril Mathew acts. For my sadness all those who were responsible escaped gallows because of the justice system that prevails.

I wonder how would reconciliation suffer by citing rogues for war crimes? It has been two years since the end of the war and, as usual, the MR regime has been giving excuses, one after the other, in offering a meaningful solution to the Tamils. Immediately after the war, thousands of Tamils were locked up in concentration camps. Does this look like reconciliation? Then when the pressure started they were taken and dumped elsewhere to care for themselves. Now they have to apply for repayable loans to start their life afresh. I think the right way to teach despots who think they can hide behind tyranny is to make them answer for the war crimes. The regime had even the cheek to market its brutal and inhumane methods to other repressive regimes. If this regime is not stopped in its tracks, other despots are bound to follow.

Dear Meikandan
You ask, "Are the unarmed wounded civilians waiting for a Red Cross boats on the beach for evacuation were “unavoidable collateral damage” ?
An excellent question.
Q: Why were these unarmed civilians in the line of fire?
Ans: Because they were forced to evacuate their homes by the LTTE to act as its human shield. The LTTE alone is responsible for placing the civilians in harms' way.
I'm flattered that you consider me capable of misleading the Eelamish masses. The Eelamish masses were misled by their Glorious Failure, the corpulent 'Sun God', Prabha. I couldn't possibly compete with him.
As for the rest of your ramblings about ancient history and strange men you meet on full moonss, I really can't help with you with your problems. Sorry.

After killing over 50,000 Tamils, what is happening last two years, it is a complete Ethnic cleansing. Only the word "reconciliation" come on government media. I think in sri lanka reconciliation means Ethnic cleansing.
Sri Lanka: evidence of ongoing repression and abuse http://www.channel4.com/news/sri-lanka-evidence-o…
The ICTY held to be genocide the systematic executions of an estimated 8,000 Bosnian men and boys -or 1 in 5 – out of a population of 40,000 (the target group) in Srebrenica, and a total population of 2 million. However, the now well substantiated allegations against Sri Lankan state and the Rajapakse regime are an order of magnitude greater.
The UN expert panel finds that a credible estimate of civilian deaths in the Vanni would be 75,000 (or nearly ten times Srebrenica’s grim total) from an estimated population of 330,000 Tamils (or 1 in 4 of the target group), out of a total population of 3 million Tamils in Sri Lanka.
The report also estimates the ratio of physically injured to dead as 1:2 or 1:3, and says the number killed could be much higher. It notes that approximately 40,000 surgical procedures and 5,000 amputations were carried out on the wounded, under horrific conditions.
The genocide convention, of course, covers not just killing but serious physical or mental harm. And the UN experts’ report goes on to provide harrowing details of the subhuman medical and humanitarian conditions the Sri Lankan state created for the Vanni population, surrounded by its armed forces, by withholding food and medical supplies and relentless bombardment for months on end. http://www.tamilguardian.com/article.asp?articlei…
Dear Meikandan,
We share these truths of History's dialectic.
For there are many, of many nations, who keep your People alive in their meditations.
Because they learned from yours how to Continue.
Beyond setbacks.
Beyond the black, bitter drink of defeat.
Defeat sowing her own special seeds …
For our Continuation in the womb of Nation.
Sinhalese are proclaiming Eelam's death.
How can the Land be dead ? ? ?
When Her People are alive to keep Her memory ? ? ?
Eelam isn't only alive, but Resurrected.
Today She's defines lanka, She's shapes & defines the future of sinhalese soul & state.
What happens to Eelam happens to the lankan entity, identity.
Even Her enemies shout Her name by day, & endlessly… when you whisper it in your dreams.
They shout Her name as proof of their own worth, their own existence.
The more they deny, the more She walks, & wings across the Seas.
"Suprasinhalists" ask me, Is there proof for calling us such, as "ideology" ?
No proof positive .. for they have no ideology, no Cause to prove. No Dream.
Proof negative, then ? It's there. Their Eelam denial.
They're like Zionism's core, who spent 60 winters denying Palestine.
Today that core is coming recognizing there's no viable "israel" with any future there.
Just Palestine.
There may be no lanka without Eelam.

Don't forget to add these dead civilians to the Eelam Genocide Bingo. With any luck, you'll be able to raise the casualty figures to at least 500,000.
Please explain using your Eelam Logic what happened on this occasion, in Feb 2009.

Here's a female (Tamil) LTTE suicide bomber exploding and killing (Tamil) children and (Tamil) civilians escaping (Tamil) LTTE 'freedom fighters' by seeking shelter & protection in a (Genocidal Sri Lankan) Army IDP camp.
I thought the LTTE was meant to protect Tamils from the 'Genocidal' Sri Lankan armed forces? So why would they attack and murder Tamil children on whose behalf they claimed to be fighting?
Dear Savage,
After having waded through that eye-wateringly dreadful poetry, let me bring you back to Earth.
Eelam definitely exists in the hearts and minds of millions of separatists and their supporters across the world. Eelam exists in exhibition venues, shop fronts, in cardboard cutouts, on youtube videos, in films and books, on facebook pages and in student societies across the world.
Here's Eelam (in London), in 2011 selling groceries and wines.

Like syphilis, gonorrhea and schizophrenia, Eelam is ineradicable and will be with us for the foreseeable future.
Fortunately Eelam will not achieve a physical manifestation in Sri Lanka. It's too late for that. It ain't gonna happen. Sri Lanka will continue without Eelam.

Why??

In 2009 alone, more than 35,000 Tamils are estimated to have violently or needlessly lost their lives. Because of the fear and desperation put forth by this, about 1.1 Million Tamils have fled the country.
The numbers are horrible, and include over 600,000 Tamil internal refugees (Internally displaced or evicted). And while this has taken place, more than 20,000 Tamil children have been orphaned and denied the possibility of living a normal life with their families.
And along with this, more than 35,000 Tamil widows.
Why??

The Rajapaksas can never launch an investigation into war crimes because it would be political suicide, or because the military wouldn’t have it, has got it backwards.
The problem is that accountability would be personal suicide for the brothers, since the orders to commit atrocities (from indiscriminate shelling to executing LTTE leaders) came from Gota, Basil and Mahinda and Sarath F, and perhaps a few other senior commanders.
Dear Rohan,
Don’t forget to add these dead civilians to the Eelam Genocide Bingo. With any luck, you’ll be able to raise the casualty figures to at least 500,000.
Please explain using your Eelam Logic what happened on this occasion, in Feb 2009.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PxDHp2nvz9w
Here’s a female (Tamil) LTTE suicide bomber exploding and killing (Tamil) children and (Tamil) civilians escaping (Tamil) LTTE ‘freedom fighters’ by seeking shelter & protection in a (Genocidal Sri Lankan) Army IDP camp.
I thought the LTTE was meant to protect Tamils from the ‘Genocidal’ Sri Lankan armed forces? So why would they attack and murder Tamil children on whose behalf they claimed to be fighting?
Dear Savage,
After having waded through that eye-wateringly dreadful poetry, let me bring you back to Earth.
Eelam definitely exists in the hearts and minds of millions of separatists and their supporters across the world. Eelam exists in exhibition venues, shop fronts, in cardboard cutouts, on youtube videos, in films and books, on facebook pages and in student societies across the world.
Here’s Eelam (in London), in 2011 selling groceries and wines.
http://thecarthaginiansolution.files.wordpress.com/2011/04/eelam-shop-se13.png
Like syphilis, gonorrhea and schizophrenia, Eelam is ineradicable and will be with us for the foreseeable future.
Fortunately Eelam will not achieve a physical manifestation in Sri Lanka. It’s too late for that. It ain’t gonna happen. Sri Lanka will continue without Eelam.
For anyone seeking a release from Eelam, this is a good place to start: http://www.rethink.org/

Dear Mango,
You are supporting the dangerous regimes in Sri Lanka that are determined to wipe out a race from the face of this earth. Torture, murder and rape against the minority Tamils, abductions, summary executions, forced colonizations of Tamil lands, extension of military bases in Tamil areas even in the absence of war and various human rights abuses, have made this country as an island of hell.
Last 65 years, The Sinhala Democracy used to suppress the Democratic will of the Tamils, SINHALESE ACT TO DESTROY TAMIL HISTORY.
"The impact of the communal violence on the Tamils was shattering… The evidence points clearly to the conclusion that the violence of the Sinhala rioters on the Tamils amounted to Acts of Genocide."

Sri Lankan rulers use a simple binary logic that their categorise anyone who oppose their extremist policies and human rights violations as terrorists. They are able to see only two types of humans on this planet. Those who are with them or those who are against them. Since they identify the ones who disagree with them as terrorists, Sri Lanka has in many instances blamed Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, Red Cross and many other humanitarian organisations as terrorist sympathisers

In the last sixty years more than three hundred thousands Tamils died in Sri Lanka. They were killed by bombs, guns, swords and knives. Many Tamils went through physical abuse, torture, isolation and rape in the hands of the Sinhala soldiers before their death. Thousands of Tamil women were raped. More than fifty thousands were maimed. Many thousands have become orphans and windows. More than a million had to flee the country in order to save the lives.

He implies eradication of SL Tamils will continue unabated.
Will GoSL succeed?
Probably not. Hitler tried hard in a similar task but failed.
Reconciliation has never been the goal of the Rajapaksa administration.
Pandering to the chauvinistic tendencies of the Sinhala public is the government’s raison d’etre, and any attempt at meaningful reconciliation or accountability will be shot down.
In the mean time, the war-based economy will fall apart…
What kind of reconciliation was Prof GLP envisaging when the Sinhalese army was desecrating exquisitely maintained Tamil war cemeteries, bulldozing them and building military head quarters over them knowing that it will deeply affect every Tamil?
Now he sheds crocodile tears.
First, send the occupying army back to their barracks in the South.

The scale of the crime, committed behind the shutters of frontlines that were sealed by the army of Sri Lanka, and from which independent humanitarian workers and journalists were excluded, is just beginning to leak out. Using as a justification the fraternal jingoism of the global war on terror, the President Rajapaksa, unleashed death squads on domestic dissenters and sent gangs to attack newspapers and TV outlets.
It choked off visas for foreign journalists trying to reach the island, and stopped those already there from meaningful access to the battlefield. It dispatched its eloquent English-speaking and Oxbridge-educated emissaries to plead in diplomatic assemblies that its "humanitarian" war was "bloodless". If any civilians were killed, they said, it was the Tigers' doing.

Time magazine removes Mahinda Rajapaksa’s name after tip off
The world reputed Time magazine has removed Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s name from the world’s most influential leaders list after it found serious malpractices in voting M. Rajapaksa as one of the most influential world leaders.
The Sri Lanka government media and other websites recently boasted about the President’s continuous rise from 28th place to fourth place in the reputed magazine’s annual poll on world’s top leaders.
But the LankaNewsWeb understands that an investigation by theTime magazine has found that Sri Lankan government has paid millions of dollars to a public relations company to generate votes for Mr. Rajapaksa.
It has then removed Mahinda Rajapaksa’s name from the list.
Political analysts say it shows that Mr. Rajapaksa, having successfully fooled Sri Lankan voting public at the presidential and general elections, has once again failed to fool the international community.

Our differences — those between "you" & "us" — are not where we differ here.
Where we differ is that we ourselves wish to shed a clear light on everything that happened & is still happening in sri lanka.
A clear light, shed by independent, neutral investigators.
& neither you nor sri lanka wants any such light to fall upon the scene.

As the Tamil saying “arasan anru kolvan, theivam nindru kollum”… GOSL must answer for all the crimes they have committed. They had a lot of chance to show Tamils that they only wanted to get rid of LTTE not Tamils. Since end of war, GOSL showed that their intension also to get rid of Tamils… as there seems to be no firm commitment even after MR winning 2nd term…
It will hard for Rajapaksa unless they can silence their people such as Mr Weiss. Nevertheless, as the saying .. “Theivam nindru kolum…”, we will wait and see how this UN thing folds and how Tamil Nadu election results come out

Why UN don't have authority to probe into the mass killings of civilians???
United Nations, who is supposed to be a guardian for the oppressed people in the world turned out to be a silent spectator of a man made disaster that has taken the lives of many thousands.
Leaders of Sri Lanka and some responsible officers in the UN, should be questioned in international courts in order to find out if they were responsible for the deaths of innocent Tamils.

Our international legal systems are still failing to bring the culprits to justice.

Panel of experts finds credible reports of war crimes during Sri Lanka conflict – UN

“The Secretary-General has consistently held the view that Sri Lanka should, first and foremost, assume responsibility for ensuring accountability for the alleged violations,” said the statement, adding that he encourages the Government to respond constructively to the recommendations made by the panel.
and
U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said he lacks the authority to personally order a probe into the mass killings of civilians in the final months of Sri Lanka’s civil war, as a report recommended on Monday.
Why UN don’t have authority to probe into the mass killings of civilians???
United Nations, who is supposed to be a guardian for the oppressed people in the world turned out to be a silent spectator of a man made disaster that has taken the lives of many thousands.
Leaders of Sri Lanka and some responsible officers in the UN, should be questioned in international courts in order to find out if they were responsible for the deaths of innocent Tamils.
What Is The Difference Between Libyan Civilians And Tamil Civilians?

Sri Lanka Police threaten Tamils in Colombo to sign petition against UN
Sri Lanka’s State Intelligence Unit personnel are threatening Tamils walking along roads in Colombo, forcing them to sign petitions prepared by the Rajapakse led government in an attempt to collect one million signatures against the UN Experts panel report.
Tamils who refuse to sign are threatened and subjected to bodily harm, Tamil civil sources allege.

So much for democracy in Sri Lanka !! 🙂
Sri Lanka Army intelligence men two days ago summoned a Tamil youth in the Fort area in Colombo and asked him to sign the petition against UN.
When he refused to sign it, he was assaulted by police personnel, the youth said.

•Buddhist monks sits in Parliament and promotes great intolerance and war.
•The ruling classes in Sri Lanka are unhappy that a UN panel report has sought a probe into alleged war crimes committed against Tamils in 2009.
•China protected Sri Lanka from scrutiny in the Security Council because it suited China’s interests.
•An angry President Mahinda Rajapakse has called for mass “May Day protests” against such calls for investigations.
•India’s prestige and moral force have suffered as a result of its actions in support of Sri Lanka
•In Sri Lanka if you become too great an irritation, you might be killed.
The UN report painted a barbarous picture of the final offensive on the Tamil enclave in northern Sri Lanka
Hospitals, UN centers and Red Cross ships were deliberately shelled by Sri Lanka government forces, prisoners shot in the head and women raped
The Expert Panel’s finding that the government and Tamil Tigers committed abuses and that the government has failed to hold its forces accountable shows the need for an international investigation. Russia and China should stop blocking efforts to find justice for victims in Sri Lanka and support the panel’s recommendations.

Wrong is wrong”. Even if a million people oppose or protest, a wrong cannot turn right. A crime is a crime even in a society entrenched in evil.
The Sinhalese were cheated and lied en masse during the war. The government of Sri Lanka(GOSL) deliberately suppressed the evidence of war. Even last week a mahanayake said that war crimes were not committed.
But now the UN report is made public and the truth is for every one to see. Concrete and credible evidence for crimes against humanity and war crimes in SL is before the UN and the world to openly see and infer.
The UN has an obligation to identify war crimes and crimes against humanity and punish the offenders. The purpose is to protect mankind.
But Russia refuses to accept the truth and work with the UN because Russia was a collaborator with SL in the crimes. Russian made cluster munitions were used by the Air Force of SL to bomb Tamil civilian targets.
The Russians committed the same crimes in Chechenya. Both SL and Russians are “twins” on this matter.
And now, Russia and its Sri Lankan cohorts are attempting to push the people of SL into a deeper and bigger mess.
The people of SL did not mandate the GOSL to commit these crimes against humanity. Therefore, it is not The people of SL who committed these crimes. The offenders are the soldiers and the GOSL.

Sri Lanka: No-inquiry zoneTruth and accountability are not divisible, and a single failure of international justice is also a collective one
When Richard Goldstone, the judge who headed a UN fact-finding mission to Gaza, partially recanted last month – an act that was disowned by fellow members of the mission – the saga was used as Exhibit A in the case against the UN. The organisation, it was claimed, was so inherently biased against Israel that it lacked the moral authority to investigate it. Where was the Goldstone report about Sri Lanka, some asked?
A UN panel has just produced such a report about the carnage of civilians which took place two years ago when government forces crushed the Tamil Tigers. It is as hard-hitting as anything Goldstone produced, and therefore is just as likely to be shelved. The point is that truth and accountability, let alone international justice, are not divisible. One country's ability to bury the evidence of war crimes endangers how civilians are treated in all other conflicts. A single failure of international justice is also a collective one. http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2011/apr/…
